A Year Older

I have had a great couple of days since I last wrote.  I went to my cousin's daughter's baptism.  It was great to see the family again and meet the new baby.  She is adorable.  I was eating celery that was part of the vegetarian food platter and she was staring up at me.  It was hilarious.  Perhaps, I chew louder than I thought.

I knitted baby Shannon another sweater and sewed up a box bag as a present.  Lexi is doing a final inspection.  The last photo is the most true to the actual colour.  I included some budgie shots.  John took these photos.

My birthday was on Monday.  My parents came over for a cup of tea then John and I went to Navan.  We went shopping.  It was so last minute but a lot of fun.  For dinner, I cooked up a steak and had a glass of red wine.  I don't need much.  I wasn't going to have cake but my Dad got some rhubarb and wanted a crumble so I got more rhubarb and made him a crumble and myself and John a gluten free crumble.  It was very tasty.  I guess that was my birthday cake.  I made the crumbles on Tuesday.

It was the quietest birthday I had in a long time but I really enjoyed it.

What was funny was on my birthday, we were starving and waiting for a bus.  John went to Apache pizza and got a pizza and got all guilty because it was my birthday and I can't eat pizza.  I told him that it was nonsense and that it is useless to feel guilty.  It is not his fault that I can't eat gluten or dairy.  Birthdays don't change that fact, they only change my age.  (Anyway, I prefer steak to pizza!)

A lot to do with knitting

I am sewing like a secret agent today.  Again, it has to do with birthdays and whatnot.  Will take photos, when I am finished and after the presents are given to recipients.

I took some photos of other projects I have on the go and can't wait to finish.  I am often like a child writing her Christmas list when I scribble down what sweater/jumper projects I am going to tackle and in what order.  Huge fan of making lists.

This sweater project, photographed, is using laceweight yarn that I dyed.  I am knitting 2 strands together.  It is a top down, seamless raglan sweater for me.  When I run out of the lace yarn, I will use the merino silk 4 ply yarn (dark purple yarn in the photos)

The photos, of just the yarn, is lace weight yarn that I dyed and I am hoping to do the same.  Knit 2 strands together and make another raglan seamless sweater.  I dyed a 400 gram cone of lace weight yarn, only a few months ago.  Lexi likes to supervise all that I do.

John got a new cage for his budgies.  It is such a cool cage.  Never thought I would get excited about birds but I guess from learning from John.  I guess we both encourage each other's different interests.  He knows what interfacing is and lots of knitting terms.

Fall/Autumn feels like it is on its way.  I am making dinner and have some soup on the go for tomorrow's lunch.  Love soup and love the changing of seasons.  We might get some more warm days but I still fancy a bit of soup.  Tomorrow's soup du jour will be Carrot and Cumin made fresh with ingredients that I can tolerate.

Knitting and Cake

I have a bit of birthday knitting to do yet.  Still slugging away and it is all late.  Lucky for me, the birthday folk are flexible.  Weird year for birthdays.  Our family's birthdays come in clumps and mine is the last one.  The July-August group have 2- 3 weeks between each.  Usually by the time my birthday comes around, we are all fed up of cake and borderline diabetic.  One year, there was so much sugar in the icing/frosting that none of us could sleep the full night until the cake was finished.

This year, my mother didn't want a cake.  My brother is crazy busy at the moment, so we will celebrate or I will make him a cake when he gets time off.  I don't think this soon to be birthday girl (me) will be having a cake as well.  I am trying out the Autoimmune Protocol Diet this summer.  Anytime, I try and go back on any of the no list, I am not well.  As much as I love cake, I don't want to be sick on my birthday.  It is mad to think that this is my first year without a cake but it is a worthy sacrifice to feel good.  (Not 100% easy all the time)

This is a raglan that I am working on and hope to finish soon.  It is actually a remake.  I followed a pattern that is one size fits all.  I must of made a mistake.  Not to worry!  I finally ripped it out a few months ago and finally started cracking this summer.  I have a lot of projects on the go.  I love starting new projects the most.  Trying to finish more projects!!!!

The mitten is knitted with some Studio Donegal and some of my handspun from batts I made myself a while back.

Birds, Box Bags and a Pup

We went to the Trim Walled Festival on Sunday.  It was great fun.  John's sister, husband and daughter came.  My folks came as well.  The New Grange Falconry was there.  The pictures of the birds are some that John took.
The box bag is the other one I made for John's sister Elaine.

Lexi is my strict quality control checker, the wonder pup that is also great company.

We went shopping yesterday in Blanchardstown.  More window shopping than spending.

I did some sewing today.  I will photograph them tomorrow.

The world is mud-luscious and puddle- wonderful.

More Sewing

Quiet enough day, I got some sewing done.  I finished off the aubergine/eggplant box bag last night.  I cut the fabric last night and sewed away today.  Totally finished two off and have some finishing touches to another one.
Watching Liar, Liar with John now.  Going to switch off the computer now and get my knit on.

Hoping to go to the Trim Walled Town Festival tomorrow!  John's family are even coming over to see the festival and have a chat over tea.

Box bags, Cosmetic Bags, and Pencil Cases, Oh My!

Here are more box bags, cosmetic bags and pencil cases that I have made.  The name of the game is to have a box bag for every sock project on the go.  Also am making pencil cases and cosmetic cases to house all my pens and bits and bobs.
Been practicing on some upcycled pillow cases and beloved fabric collected through the years.  It has been fun putting them together.  The purple satin fabric is a print I designed years ago and had digitally printed.
Am supposed to be finishing off thumbs on mittens that I have been working on.  The plan was to watch Cider House Rules and knit but I have it paused and have been distracted and pottering around.  Might take a quick stroll with Lexi (my dog) and come back and knit mittens.

I hear winter is coming.

(The photos of Lexi are of her recovering from a walk yesterday.  We got drenched!)

Reindeer Paperchase Box Bag

My lovely sister gave me this set of tea towels from Paperchase a couple of Christmases ago. I never used them because I thought they were too pretty for doing the dishes. I cut one up and made a box bag. Love the thought of having Christmas box bags for Christmas knitting. I know it is too early to be thinking about Christmas!  I love Christmas!  Last night, I watched When Harry Met Sally!  Also I rented out The Downton Abbey Christmas Special from the library and watched that first.  I guess that set the mood. Kind of made want to watch more Christmas movies.  John and I were going to watch Meet Me At St. Louis the other night.  I adore that film but we decided to watch The Wizard of Oz instead.
